LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - The University of Louisville field hockey team will hold an alumnae scrimmage on Saturday, August 20 at 1 p.m. at Trager Stadium. Pregame festivities start at noon and a reception at the Parrish House will immediately follow the game.
"We hope that this year's alumnae reunion and game is the biggest so far!" said U of L head coach Pam Bustin. "We encourage former Cardinals to bring their families and enjoy the afternoon with their old teammates and the current Cardinal team. Not only should the alumnae game be exciting and fun to watch, we look forward to a big Cardinal Big East Lift-Off with as many of our past classes represented. Joining the Big East Conference is an event that should make each and every Cardinal field hockey player proud. Many years of hard work, teamwork and pride made this transition happen. We call on all of our Cardinal Field Hockey family members to join us in opening a new and exciting field hockey season."
U of L finished the 2004 season with a 12-10 overall record and posted a program-best 8-2 Mid-American Conference record while tying Kent State for the regular season championship and receive the league's automatic NCAA play-in game bid.
The Cardinals return 19 letterwinners and nine starters from last year's Mid-American Conference championship team including third team All-American junior midfielder Jessica Javelet and fellow All-MAC selections sophomore goalkeeper Marie-Claire Heller, senior defender Rachel Overton and junior midfielder Lisa Wasser.
Louisville will open the 2005 season at home with the Champions Tournament August 27-28. The Cards will play 2004 NCAA runner-up Duke on Saturday, Aug. 27 at 2 p.m. at Trager Stadium. The tournament field also includes Boston University and 2004 semifinalist Michigan State.
