
Field Hockey's Javelet Earns Academic All-American Honors

University of Louisville field hockey player Jessica Javelet has been named to the 2005 ESPN The Magazine Academic All American Women's At-Large second team as announced recently by the College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA). Javelet becomes the Louisville field hockey player to earn the honor.
Javelet, a sophomore marketing major from Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., led the team and the Mid-American Conference with 15 goals and 41 points. She was named to the STX/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I All-America third team, the STX/NFHCA Division I All-West Region first team and was an All-MAC first team selection. Javelet is a two-time member of the NFHCA honor roll and has been named to the Athletic Director's honor roll all four semesters of her college career.
The U of L field hockey team finished the 2004 season as the MAC regular season and tournament champions, earning their second consecutive NCAA postseason bid.
To be eligible for the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America team, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve and carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher. The women's At-Large program for Academic All-America includes the sports of bowling, crew, fencing, golf, gymnastics, field hockey, ice hockey lacrosse, rifle, skiing, tennis and water polo. The team is selected by the College Sports Information Directors Association. The first-team selections from each of the eight CoSIDA districts were candidates for the Academic All-America teams.
