HUNTINGTON, W.VA. -- - The University of Louisville men's golf team fired a third-round score of 273, the second-best total in school, to win the Marshall Invitational on Saturday in Huntington, W.Va. The Cardinals won back-to-back tournaments after winning the Forest Oaks Intercollegiate last week in Greensboro, N.C.
The Cardinals, who entered the third round trailing Xavier and Ohio State, bested the Musketeers by four strokes and had all five players place in the top 20.
Freshmen Daryl and Derek Fathauer paced the Cardinals by placing second and fourth, respectively. Daryl fired 70-69-67=206, tying the second-best 54-hole score in school history. Charlie Woo also shot a 206 earlier this fall at the Cardinal Intercollegiate. Derek, who won the Forest Oaks last weekend, finished fourth with his score of 209, including a 66 in the final round. It's tied for the second-best round in school history. He also shot a 66 at the Cardinal Intercollegiate last September.
Senior Charlie Woo placed seventh overall with his score of 71-68-71-210. Freshman Adam Rainaud moved up to 17th after shooting 74-72-69=216, while senior Brett Jones was tied for 19th by shooting 71-74-72=217.
The Cardinals will compete at the Conference USA Championships at Southern Mississippi on April 18-20.
