
Cardinal Crew to Open Spring Season Against No. 24 Minnesota

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville rowing team will open the 2005 spring season with five races against the 24th ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers on Sunday in Oak Ridge, Tenn. The race schedule is set to begin at 11 a.m. ET with the Varsity 8+ and will be followed by a second Varsity 8+ race, the Novice 8+ race and a pair of Varsity 4+ races.
Following the season-opener with Minnesota, U of L will face No. 10 Tennessee on March 26 in Knoxville and will compete at a Quad Meet on April 9 in Indianapolis against No. 16 Notre Dame, Indiana and Purdue. The Cardinal crew will return to the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships on April 15-17 in Oak Ridge, Tenn., where they will face another solid field of teams before hosting the annual Derby Festival Regatta against Murray State on April 30. A third trip to Oak Ridge, Tenn., awaits the team on May 14-15 for the NCAA Southern Regional.
"We're excited about the schedule and felt it was important to challenge our athletes each week," said U of L head coach Richard Ruggieri. "By doing so, we have seen a great deal of focus and determination throughout the winter. As coaches, we could not be more proud of their commitment and dedication to the team and university."
