
Field Hockey Team and Players Earn National Academic Honors

The University of Louisville field hockey team placed a nation-leading 16 student-athletes on the 2004 National Field Hockey Coaches Association National Academic Squad. Members of the squad must have attained a minimum overall GPA of 3.30 through the first semester of the 2004-05 academic year and must be a starter or key reserve. U of L was also a 2004 NFHCA Team Award recipient. Programs with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher are eligible for the award.
The U of L members of the NFHCA National Academic Squad include: freshman Missy Briery (Del Mar, Calif./Torrey Pines), freshman Casey Diener (Bird-in-Hand, Pa./Conestoga Valley), sophomore Lauren Groff (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra), sophomore Jenna Halulko (Allentown, Pa./Parkland), Marie-Claire Heller (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill), sophomore Carrie Jackson (Louisville, Ky./Eastern), sophomore Jessica Javelet (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Torrey Pines), sophomore Jen Kastelic (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin), freshman Beth Latham (Norristown, Pa./Methacton), freshman Laken Letellier (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart), Allison Maffitt (Houston, Texas/The Kinkaid School), freshman Casey Meizinger (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks East), junior Jen Payne (Louisville, Ky./Holy Cross), sophomore Andrea Roussel (Somerset, Mass./Somerset), sophomore Lisa Wasser (Dallas, Pa./Lake Lehman HS), and junior April White (Louisville, Ky./Ballard).
U of L finished the 2004 season with a 12-10 overall record and posted a program-best 8-2 Mid-American Conference record while tying Kent State for the regular season championship. After winning their second consecutive MAC Tournament, the Cards earned the league's NCAA play-in game bid.
