
Field Hockey's Javelet and Avila Earn Regional Honors

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- - University of Louisville field hockey players Jessica Javelet, and Janelle Avila were named to the 2005 Dartfish/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I All-West Region first team.
"This is very exciting and promising for us to have two first team regional selections," said U of L head coach Pam Bustin. "Jessica and Janelle have worked very hard this season and the entire team has contributed to our success."
Javelet, a junior midfielder from Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., was named the 2005 BIG EAST Co-Offensive Player of the Year. She earned first team all-conference honors and led the nation in scoring with 30 goals and 14 assists for 74 points. She was named BIG EAST Player of the Week three times this season.
Avila, a sophomore forward from North Kingstown, R.I., was also an All-BIG EAST first team selection. She finished the season second on the team and fifth in the nation with 20 goals and 48 points. Avila was also named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the week this season.
U of L finished the 2005 season with a 14-7 overall record and posted a 3-2 BIG EAST record in their inaugural season. The Cardinals were ranked 12th in the final NFHCA poll.
