University of Louisville field hockey coach Pam Bustin will travel to Sydney, Australia July 7-18 as a member of the United States Field Hockey Association Under 19 Futures Elite team coaching staff. The team will compete in the Australia Youth Hockey Festival, which features some of the top international and regional club teams from Australia and Japan. The 2003 team placed 5th at the tournament.
Futures Elite represents the top athletes from USA Field Hockey's Futures Olympic Development Program. Athletes are selected to Futures Elite based on their performances at the previous year's National Futures Tournament and are offered optional training and touring opportunities.
Bustin was a member of the U.S. national team from 1989-96 and played on the 1996 Olympic team. She served as an assistant coach for the U.S. national U18 team in 1997, the U19 team in 1998 and the U20 team in 1999.
"I am excited to be back coaching our young teams as they gain international experience," said Bustin. "This is something I have not been able to do for awhile and I look forward to working with the team throughout the tournament."
Bustin led U of L to its first NCAA appearance after winning the 2003 Mid-American Conference tournament. The Cardinals open the 2004 season against NCAA runner-up Duke on August 28 in East Lansing, Mich.
