LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville field hockey coach Pam Bustin has announced the schedule for the 2004 season. The slate will feature five teams which finished in the 2003 National Field Hockey Coaches poll top 20 including defending NCAA national champion Wake Forest and runner-up Duke.
"This schedule will be extremely challenging for our young team," said Bustin. "We have the opportunity to go out and compete in California, which is something we've been wanting to do for a while. Our non-conference schedule will definitely prepare us for the always competitive Mid-American Conference and hopefully the NCAA tournament."
The Cardinals will open the season at Michigan State where they will face NCAA tournament runner-up Duke on August 28 at 11:30 a.m. They will play the winner of Michigan State and Delaware on August 29.
The team will travel to Berkeley, Calif. to play the NCAA participant Bears and Stanford Sept. 4-5. The Cards face defending national champion Wake Forest in Winston-Salem on Sept. 12. The following weekend, U of L will host Indiana and William & Mary Sept. 17-19 at Trager Stadium before entering MAC play.
Louisville finished the 2003 season with a 13-10 record after winning the Mid-American Conference tournament and earning the program's first NCAA bid.
