LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville rowing team announced its 2003-04 award winners and dedicated four boats at the program's annual awards banquet Saturday evening on the Waterfront.
Senior Carmen Noltemeyer won the Cardinal Pride Award, the highest honor given by the program.
Senior Christy Ochsner was named Varsity Oars Woman of the Year, while freshmen Beth Daunhauer and Dana Osoffsky were tabbed as Novice Oars Women of the Year.
The Most Improved Rower awards were given to sophomore Mandy Moore (varsity) and freshman Jen Allen (novice).
Finally, the 2004-05 captains were named and the honors go to Lisa Terreberry and Karen Bramer.
In a tradition started in 2002, U of L Rowing shows its appreciation to special supporters of the program by dedicating shells and/or oars in their honor. Saturday night, the program dedicated three 2- shells and a coaching launch.
The three shells were dedicated to the Central Cardinal Club, the Cardinals Dames and Gary Smith. The wakeless coaching launch was dedicated to Marilyn Foulke. Each organization's or person's name will be placed on the side of the shell named in their honor. The coaching launch will be named "Bobsled."
"We are very fortunate to have booster groups like the Cardinal Dames and Central Cardinal Club," said U of L head coach Richard Ruggieri. "Gary Smith is an individual who has been tremendously supportive of our program and Marilyn Foulke is an individual who has embraced the beauty of the sport and the dedication of its athletes. They have all supported our athletes with a great deal of passion and we are honored by their generosity."
