
Christy Hershey Earns NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship

University of Louisville field hockey senior Christy Hershey received an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. The NCAA awarded 58 postgraduate scholarships of $7,500 each to 29 male student-athletes and 29 female student athletes who participated in fall sports.
To qualify for an NCAA postgraduate scholarship, a student-athlete must have an overall grade-point average of 3.2 and must have performed with distinction as a member of the varsity team in the sport in which he or she was nominated. The student-athlete must have behaved both on and off the fiel in a manner that has brought credit to the student-athlete, the institution and intercollegiate athletics. The student-athlete must also intend to continue academic work beyound the baccalaureate degree as a full-time or part-time graduate student.
The goalkeeper from Palmyra, Pa., is a two-time All-American and the 2003 Mid-American Conference Player of the Year. She finished her senior campaign with a 1.20 goal-against average and an .821 save percentage. Hershey also had five shutouts on the season and holds the school record with 24.5 career shutouts. She earned MAC Player of the Week honors twice this year.
Hershey was the Cardinals' first All-American as a sophomore in 2001. She is a three-time STX/NFHCA West Region selection and a three-time All-MAC team selection. She was also selected to play in the 2003 NFHCA Senior All-Star game.
U of L finished the 2003 season with a 13-10 (6-4 MAC) record after winning the MAC tournament and earning the program's first NCAA bid.
