Stockton, Calif. - The University of Louisville field hockey team fell to host Pacific 1-0 in overtime in the NCAA Play-In game Tuesday. Pacific improves to 11-9 and will receive one of 16 bids to the NCAA Tournament.
The teams battled through a scoreless first half with Pacific outshooting the Cards 6-2 and holding a 5-1 penalty corner advantage. U of L held a 4-3 edge in shots and had three corners to Pacific's one, but neither team scored, sending the game into a 15 minute sudden-victory overtime period.
With 14:22 remaining in the OT period, Pacific's Vianne Campos delivered an unassisted goal from the middle of the circle for the 1-0 win.
Pacific outshot U of L 10-6 and held a 6-4 penalty corner advantage in the contest. Louisville freshman goalkeeper Marie-Claire Heller posted six saves in the loss.
"I'm proud of this team for coming out here and playing the way they did," said U of L head coach Pam Bustin. "Most of the team hasn't played on a grass field in two years, but they made the adjustment and hung in there. It was a tough environment and Pacific played a great game."
The Cardinals finish the season with a 12-10 overall record after winning the Mid-American Conference tournament.
