Men's Golf Finishes Fifth in Fall Opener

LANTANA, Texas -- - Junior Brett Jones finished tied for fourth as the University of Louisville men's golf team opened its fall season with a fifth-place finish at the Mean Green Invitational at North Texas on Tuesday.
The Cardinals fired 880 to finish just two shots behind Louisiana-Monroe and McNesse State for third place. North Texas won the team title by firing 867 during the two-day event.
Jones was -1 under in the three-round event, firing a 74 on Tuesday, with rounds of 70-71-74=215 on the par 72 course.
Joining Jones in the top 15, was freshman Mike Giammaresi, who placed in a tie for 15th in his first collegiate event. He fired a 73-72-74=219, while junior Charlie Woo was 37th with a score of 69-78-76=223.
Freshman Mark Conlon carded a 77-75-78=230 for a 65th-place finish, and sophomore Brent Holmes rounded out the top five with an 81-78-73=232 to place 81st.
The Cardinals will compete at the Kansas Invitational on Monday, September 22-23.
