Louisville, Ky. -
For those hungry for the start of the 2003 college football season, the wait is over as the University of Louisville football team reports on Wednesday, August 6, for the start of preseason practice.
The first full workout is scheduled for Thursday, August 7, at 4:30 p.m., while the Friday practice is also slated for 4:30 p.m., which is a different time than was first released last week.
Due to new NCAA rules, practices will take on a different format than in years past. The players are getting a little bit of a break this year thanks to a new NCAA rule that regulates preseason practices. Two-a-days on back-to-back days are no longer allowed per NCAA regulations- a change that should keep help the players stay fresh during the steamy month of August.
Another twist new this year, Louisville's rookies are in for an eye-opening experience. Unlike previous years when they had earlier reporting dates and could get a headstart, freshmen are required to start practice the same time as the veterans, meaning they'll be even further behind when they go through drills for the first time.
The Cards, who are coming off a 7-6 season, return 14 starters, including 11 on offense for first-year head coach Bobby Petrino.
"We're very excited to get the season underway," said Petrino. "We just want to get on the field, and work on becoming a good football team."
Practices on August 7-15 are open to the public.
