
Field hockey opens 2003 season at Old Dominion

The University of Louisville field hockey team opens up the 2003 season at Old Dominion Saturday, August 30 at noon. Old Dominion advanced to the 2002 NCAA Field Hockey Championship and was the nation's top-ranked team in last year's final National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll. The Cardinals will travel to Williamsburg, Va., Sunday, Aug. 31 to play NCAA tournament participant William & Mary. The Tribe finished the 2002 season at No. 16 in the NFHCA poll.
In 2002, Louisville shared the regular season championship with Central Michigan and finished with a 13-8 overall record (7-3 MAC). After starting the season ranked fourth in the nation, they closed out the year ranked No. 11 in the NFHCA final poll.
U of L returns 14 letterwinners from that team including All-American goalkeeper senior Christy Hershey, two-time All-MAC honoree senior Olivia Netzler and 2002 All-MAC team members senior Desire' Miller and junior Kim Hughes.
The Cardinals will play their home opener against Boston University on Sept. 6 at Trager Stadium at noon.
