The University of Louisville football completed its second-to-last double session in the sweltering heat at the Cardinal football complex on Wednesday afternoon.
The team worked out in 90-degree heat for almost two and a half hours in the morning, which was highlighted by a scrimmage that pitted the 1s vs. 2s.
The scrimmage was dominated late by the second team defense, which stuffed the offense fourth times inside the three-yard line. D.J. Kamer was stopped three times, and Brian Hall was stonewalled another time.
Defensive end Chad Rimpsey and linebacker James Greene made a stop on first down, and safety Ray Childs had another. On fourth down, Kamer was turned away by the combination of Elvis Dumervil and James Jackson.
Quarterback Stefan LeFors scored on a quarterback scramble, and Michael Bush made the throw of practice when he hooked up with Montrell Jones for a 50-yard touchdown pass.
Placekicker Nate Smith closed practice by drilling field goals of 27, 34, and 41-yards, but fell just short of connecting from 50+ yards.
"It was a good intense morning practice," said head coach Bobby Petrino. "I thought the defense really showed some emotion and made the plays when they needed to. The offense needed to execute a little better, but we're getting close on both sides of the ball."
The team will work out on Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m.
