ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Sophomore Brett Jones (Paducah, Ky.) of the University of Louisville's men's golf team became the second Cardinal golfer to qualify for the U.S. Amateur Open in less than two weeks.
It marks the first time in school history that U of L had two golfers qualify in the same year. Teammate Charlie Woo also qualified back on July 23.
Jones, who became the school's firs-ever participant in the NCAA Tournament last season, fired a +1 70-73 = 143 to earn his first trip to the U.S. Amateur Open, which will be played on August 18-24 at the Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pa.
"Having two golfers qualify for the U.S. Amateur really says something about the strength of our program," said head coach Mark Crabtree. "Brett is coming off a great sophomore season, and I'm very proud to have two of our players competing in such a prestigious event."
