LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Sophomore Allison Kemphaus, a team captain on the University of Louisville rowing team, was named to the Verizon Academic District IV At-Large Second Team. This marks the second time she has been named to a Verizon team, following last year's third team selection.
Kemphaus, who carries a 3.86 grade point average, is majoring in health and human performance. One of the top collegiate lightweight rowers in the country, Kemphaus moved from stroke to bow this spring in the Cards' Varsity 8+ boat. In February, she placed third at the World Indoor Rowing Championships.
The Ft. Wright, Ky., native is a six-time Athletic Di-rector's Honor Roll member and a three-time Red and Black Scholar-Athlete. Last year, she earned Second Team All-South Region and Scholar Athlete honors by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association.
The Verizon district teams are made up of student-athletes from NCAA Division I schools in Alabama, Ken-tucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee. To be nomi-nated, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve and carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher.
Teams are selected by a vote of members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (Co-SIDA) within the district. First team selections appear on the national ballot for the Verizon Academic All-America team.
