
Softball Edges UAB 1-0 in the C-USA Tournament

HOUSTON - - The University of Louisville softball team edged UAB 1-0 Friday in the Conference USA Softball Tournament hosted by the University of Houston. The Cardinals (23-25) will play the winner of the Southern Miss/Houston matchup Friday at 8:30 EST.
The Cardinals broke a scoreless game in the top of the fifth inning when Shannon Nord led off with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Nicole Sparks and scored on Keola Calderon's double to make it a 1-0 game.
Louisville's Krystle Herold (7-11) picked up the win, allowing five hits in four innings. She shared the shutout with starter Aja Sherman who held the Lady Blazers hitless in three innings. Offensively, the Cardinals had eight hits. Calderon was 2-for-4 with the game-winning RBI.
UAB starter Kerri Thompson (12-10) took the loss, allowing one earned run on eight hits in seven innings. The sixth-seeded Blazers close the season with a 28-28 overall record.
