Softball falls to No. 6 DePaul

CHICAGO - - DePaul jumped to a 1-0 lead in the first when Sarah Martz singled, moved to second when Saskia Roberson hit into a fielder's choice, took third when Katy Kukman grounded into a double play and stole home.
Christina Douglas' solo home run in the second made it a 2-0 game.
Shannon Nord beat a two-out infield single, stole second and crossed the plate on a hit by Nicole Sparks to pull the Cards within one run in the third to make the score 2-1.
Louisville tied the game at 2-2 in the fifth when Lacy Wood led off with a single, advanced to third on a double by Sparks and scored on Keola Calderon's hit.
The Blue Demons pulled ahead again in the fifth when Saskia Roberson drew a leadoff walk and scored on a triple by Sarah Douglas to make it a 3-2 contest.
DePaul put the game away in the sixth when Gina Ramacci led off the inning with a single, moved to second on Christina Douglas' walk to set up Roberson's three-run homer to give the Blue Demons a 6-2 lead.
The Cardinals threatened in the seventh when Lisa Estes reached on an error, moved to second on Lacy Wood's base hit and Nord's infield single loaded the bases with one out. The inning ended quickly when DePaul's Lindsay Chouinard got Louisville to line into a double play.
Louisville reliever Krystle Herold (5-11) took the loss, allowing four earned runs on four hits in three innings. Offensively, the Cardinals had nine hits. Sparks went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Nord was 2-for-4 with a run scored and Wood was 2-for-3 with a run scored.
DePaul's Chouinard got the win, allowing two earned runs on nine hits and striking out seven in seven innings.
Louisville (21-24, 12-11) will travel to Houston for the Conference USA tournament May 8-10.
