
Softball Tops Western Kentucky 3-2

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Shannon Nord's triple in the bottom of the seventh inning gave the University of Louisville softball team a 3-2 win over Western Kentucky Sunday at Ulmer Stadium. The second game of the doubleheader was cancelled due to inclement weather.
The Cardinals jumped on the scoreboard in the first inning when Shannon Nord led off with a walk, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Nicole Sparks and took third on Lacy Wood's single. Keola Calderon reached on an error, which allowed Nord and Wood to score, giving U of L a 2-0 lead.
The Hilltoppers broke up the shutout and Louisville starter Krystle Herold's no-hitter in the sixth when Bailey Rolfs led off with a single and moved to second on Riley Garcia's walk. Renita Pennington's base hit loaded the bases for Shelly Floyd's two-run single to tie the game at 2-2.
In the bottom of the seventh, Louisville's Michelle Vasquez reached on an error and scored on Shannon Nord's triple, giving the Cardinals the 3-2 win.
Herold (4-5) picked up the win for Louisville, allowing two earned runs on three hits and striking out six in seven innings. The Cardinals finished when five hits. Wood was 2-for-3 in the game.
Western Kentucky starter Allison Silver (9-9) took the loss, allowing three unearned runs on five hits and striking out four in 6. 1 innings. The Hilltoppers fall to 18-18 on the season.
U of L (17-14, 8-3 C-USA) will play host to Indiana, Wednesday, April 9 at 4 p.m.
