Sophomores Brett Jones and Mark Anderson, who helped the Cards establish a new record for team stroke average for the fourth consecutive season under head coach Mark Crabtree, were named to the All-Conference USA golf team following the Cards' fifth-place finish at league championships in Tampa, Fla.
Jones, the 2002 C-USA Freshman of the Year, was a second-team selection while Anderson was a third-team selection. The duo teamed with Charlie Woo a year ago to form the nation's fifth-ranked freshman class according to this Golfstat Freshman Class Impact Rankings.
This season, Jones logged six top 10 finishes and three top 20 finishes in 12 events while posting a stunning 72.67 stroke average, nearly a full stroke under the school record of 73.65 established last season by Grant Sturgeon.
Anderson kept the momentum rolling from a hot summer campaign into his second collegiate seasons to give the Cards a solid combination atop the lineup. Anderson logged three top 10 finishes and two top 20 finishes while posting a 74.14 stroke average, the sixth-lowest stroke average in school history.
Jones, Anderson and the rest of the Cardinal golfers head into the Atlanta Intercollegiate in Stockbridge, Ga., on May 8-9 looking to establish a new record for team stroke average for the fourth time in head coach Mark Crabtree's four-year tenure at U of L. With a 295.5 average through 12 events, the Cards are more than half a stroke better than the 296.14 average posted last season.
