The battle lines have been drawn and the mood set as first-year head coach Bobby Petrino has split his Cardinal team into two squads for what promises to be an exciting and entertaining night for fans and former letterwinners when the U of L football team hits the gridiron under the lights at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium for the Annual Red-White Spring Football Game at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 18.
Fans will get their first real taste of things to come under Petrino and his staff when the Cards conclude their 15-practice spring slate with what is billed to be a game-like atmosphere at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium on Friday. From game officials to clock management and media services, the Red-White scrimmage will be run like a regular season football game.
In addition to action on the field, the 2002 senior class, the winningest class in school history, will be honored at halftime and presented with their jerseys by former Cardinal greats including David Akers, Deion Branch, Ray Buchanan, Carwell Gardner and Chris Redman.
Additionally, four lucky fans will win one of the Cards' authentic new-look jerseys and another lucky fan will win a set of season tickets for the upcoming 2003 campaign. Following the game, all former football letterwinners are invited to a reception in the Football Complex, while fans will get a chance to meet and greet their favorite Cardinals in an interview and autograph session on the field.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will get kicked off with a fish fry beginning at 7:00 p.m. when Gates 1, 2, 3 and 4 open to allow fans to access the stadium on the east side (opposite press box side). Parking is open except for the west side which is limited to suite holders who have made arrangements with the athletics department to open their suite prior to the game. Fans are asked to adhere to all game management policies in place during the regular season.
