
Field Hockey Names Team Award Winners

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - The University of Louisville field hockey team announced the 2002 team awards on Friday, Feb. 21. As voted by the team, senior midfielder Pip Sanders was named MVP for the third consecutive year; senior forward Joanie Frame was tabbed Attack Player of the Year and senior back Danielle Barr was voted Defense Player of the Year.
Frame, a senior forward from Louisville, Ky. (Assumption HS), tied for the team lead with nine goals in the 2002 season and was named to the STX/National Field Hockey Coaches Association West Region team. She battled injury to play in 55 games throughout her career and accumulated 18 goals and 38 points. Frame is a three-time Mid-American Conference Academic team member and a two-time NFHCA Academic Squad member.
Barr, a senior defender from Litiz, Pa. (Warwick HS), was a four-year starter for the Cardinals. She earned All-Mid-American Conference honors as a junior and senior and is a two-time member of the MAC All-Tournament team. She led the team with eight assists and moved to third on the school's career list with 15. She tied for third in the team with 16 points. Barr was also named to the 2002 STX/NFHCA Senior All-Star team.
Sanders, a senior midfielder from New South Wales, Australia. (MacArthur Anglican HS), was named to the 2002 STX/NFHCA All-American third team and has been named to the STX/NFHCA Regional All-American squad three times. Sanders posted five goals and five assists in 2002 for a total of 15 points en route to being named Mid-American Conference Co-Player of the Year. Sanders is also a four-time All-MAC selection and three-time team Most Valuable Player. In addition to her other accolades, she was also named to the 2002 STX/NFHCA Senior All-Star team. Sanders started all 85 games during her career at Louisville, owns the school record for career assists with 35, single season assists with 13 and is second in career points with 73.
The University of Louisville field hockey team finished the 2002 season with a 13-8 record (7-3 Mid-American Conference) and captured the school's first regular season MAC championship. The Cardinals were ranked as high as No. 4 in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll and closed out the season at No. 11.
