Softball loses to Santa Clara

HONOLULU. -The University of Louisville softball fell to Santa Clara 10-0 Sunday at the Chevron Paradise Classic hosted by the University of Hawaii.
The Broncos jumped to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first when Coresta Salas led off with a single, stole second and came home on a hit by Jenny Brown. Rachel Sherman followed with a base hit to set up Tracie Hall's three-run homer to make the score 4-0.
Santa Clara added two runs in the fourth when Shannon Linerud led off with a base hit, moved to second on a hit by Jaime Forman-Lau, took third on Roni Rivera's sacrifice bunt and scored on a sacrifice fly by Lauren Fissori. Forman-Lau scored on a single by Salas to give the Broncos a 6-0 lead.
Santa Clara scored four more runs in the fifth when Sherman led off with a single, moved to second on Hall's hit, advanced to third on a base hit by Linerud and scored on a wild pitch. Hall crossed the plate on Rivera's sacrifice fly and Linerud came home on a hit by Fissori. Fissori crossed the plate on a single by Brown to make the score 10-0.
Broncos starter Jaime Forman-Lau got the shutout win, allowing three hits and striking out eight.
U of L starter Aja Sherman took the loss, allowing four earned runs on five hits. Offensively, Lacy Wood, Keola Calderon and Lisa McMillan each had a hit.
Louisville (0-5) will travel to Cookeville, Tenn., to compete in the Tennessee Tech Tournament Feb. 21-23.
