
Field Hockey Signs Six

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - University of Louisville field hockey coach Pam Bustin has announced that six student-athletes have signed National Letters-of-Intent to continue their education and field hockey careers at U of L. Meredith Edwards, Lauren Groff, Carrie Jackson, Jessica Javelet, Sara Jerousek and Lisa Wasser will join the Cardinals in the fall of 2003.
"After graduating key members of the Team Cardinal squad, we look forward to watching Meredith, Lauren, Carrie, Jessica, Sara, and Lisa grow and develop into the successful future of this program," Bustin said.
Meredith Edwards, a forward from Shavertown Pa., played at Lake Lehman High School, the 2002 Pennsylvania State champions and 2001 state runner-up. She earned All-State honors in 2001 and 2002 and was a Wyoming Valley All-Star.
Lauren Groff, a back from Palmyra, Pa., played for Palmyra Area High School where she was captain of the team as a junior and senior. In 2002, her team advanced to the quarterfinals of the Pennsylvania State tournament. She earned All-State and Lebanon Valley News All County honors in 2001 and 2002. Groff was also a Mid Penn All-Star and named to the Patriot News Big 11 second team in 2002. In addition to her athletic accomplishments, she was also named to National Academic Squad in 2002.
Carrie Jackson, a Louisville native, played for Eastern High School. As a forward, she earned All-State honors in 2001 and 2002. She was named Most Valuable Player as a senior and led the team in scoring.
Jessica Javelet, a midfielder from Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., attended Torrey Pines High School in San Diego. She played for the 2001 and 2002 California State champion team and earned 2002 All-County honors. Javelet was named team Most Valuable Player and Palomar League Player of the Year in 2001.
Defender Sara Jerousek joins the Cardinals from Oak Park River Forest High School in Oak Park, Ill. She was captain of her team as a senior and a three-time Illinois All-State selection. Jerousek participated in the United States Field Hockey Futures Nationals and the National Field Hockey Festival and was a 2000-01 Junior Olympian.
Lisa Wasser, a midfielder/forward from Dallas, Pa., played at 2002 Pennsylvania State champion Lake Lehman High School. A Mid-East Regional All-American, she also earned All-State and All-Conference honors in 2001 and 2002. She was named the 2002 Wyoming Valley West Conference Player of the Year.
"The coaching staff and the rest of Team Cardinal are excited about this incoming group of freshmen," said Bustin. "They share the passion for field hockey and look forward to contributing their talents to the University of Louisville. With the addition of such dedicated student-athletes, the Cardinal program should make yet another stride toward an NCAA appearance."
The University of Louisville field hockey team finished the 2002 season with a 13-8 record (7-3 Mid-American Conference) and captured the school's first regular season MAC championship. The Cardinals were ranked as high as No. 4 in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll and closed out the season at No. 11.
