
Four Field Hockey Players Named to Academic All-MAC Team

CLEVELAND - - The University of Louisville field hockey team placed a league-leading four student athletes on the 2003 Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team. To qualify for the honors, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least fifty percent of the contests. First year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence not eligible for this award.
Goalkeeper Christy Hershey, a senior communications major from Palmyra, Pa., earned All-MAC honors for the second consecutive year. She led the MAC with a 1.20 goals-against average and an .821 save percentage. The 2003 Mid-American Conference Field Hockey Player of the Year had five shutouts on the season and holds the school record with 24.5 career shutouts. She earned MAC Player of the Week honors twice this year and was named to the MAC All-Tournament team. Hershey is a two-time All-American, a three-time STX/NFHCA West Region selection and a three-time All-MAC team member.
Forward Shannon Kemp, a senior sport administration major from Louisville, Ky., played in all 23 games this season, scoring one goal and one assist for three points.
Defender Casey Lehman, a senior psychology major from Palmyra, Pa., is a four-year starter and team field captain. She earned All-MAC second team honors and was named to the 2003 All-tournament team.
Midfielder Desire' Miller, a senior psychology major from Johannesburg, South Africa, was second on the team with eight goals and three assists for 19 points. After transferring to U of L from Rhode Island as a junior, she became a two-time All-MAC team selection and was named to the 2003 All-Tournament team.
U of L finished the 2003 season with a 13-10 (6-4 MAC) record after winning the MAC tournament and earning the program's first NCAA bid.
