LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville women's rowing coach Richard Ruggieri announced today that two student-athletes from Canada have signed National Letters of Intent to continue their education and row for the Cardinals this year.
Stephanie Hutton, a native of Brockville, Ontario, rowed stroke for the 4+ and 8+ crews at Brockville Collegiate Institute. She has been coached by the Marshall family, which has produced many strong crews in Brockville.
In five years of rowing, Hutton has had several gold medal performances including one this year in the Senior Women's 8+ at the Canadian School Boy Regatta, giving her three for her career at the event. She also won the Junior 4+ at the Canadian Henley and last weekend added another gold medal to her collection as she stroked the Brockville squad to the Junior 4+ title at the Women's English Henley in London. Hutton was also a member of the bronze medal crew representing Ontario at the 2001 Canada Cup Regatta.
"Stephanie is a very talented rower and racer," said Ruggieri, who is entering his third year at the helm. "Her training and work ethic is second to none and will fit perfectly with our Varsity squad."
Lisa Terreberry, a native of Fonthill, Ontario, has been rowing since her freshman year at E.L. Crossley Secondary School. She was coached by John Riscutti, who is currently serving as an assistant coach with the Canadian Junior National team.
Terreberry has enjoyed a tremendous amount of success in various races during her rowing career. She won a gold medal in the Senior Lightweight 2- race at the 2002 Canadian School Boy Regatta, adding to the gold she won in 2000 in the Junior Lightweight 4+ race. Other race wins include the Youth 8+ at the 2000 Head of the Charles, the Junior 2x at the 2001 Royal Canadian Henley and the Junior 4x at the 2001 Canada Cup Regatta.
Terreberry gained international experience last summer when she represented her country at the CaNaMex event in Manitoba. The regatta consists of teams from Canada, Mexico and the United States.
"Lisa has proven to be a successful racer and someone who will give us the experience needed to break into the top 25," said Ruggieri. "She is a team player who is committed to reaching our goals."
The Cardinals will begin their fourth year of intercollegiate competition this fall.
