LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville put the finishing touches on its 2002 football schedule which features six home games at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium and five nationally televised games. Continuing a recent trend for the Cards, U of L will still see a little variety this season with a pair of Thursday night games in addition to Sunday and Tuesday night affairs.
The Cards begin their quest for an unprecedented third consecutive Conference USA title at home against Kentucky on Sunday, September 1, in front of a national audience on ESPN2. U of L will be looking to notch a fourth-straight win over its instate rival from Lexington.
U of L then travels to Duke on Saturday, September 7 for the first of three consecutive Saturday road games. After butting heads with Colorado State for the third consecutive season on September 14 on ESPN2, the Cards open their C-USA slate at Army on September 21.
Looking to exact some revenge for a 31-0 loss to the Seminoles in Tallahassee in 2000, the Cards return home to face Florida State on Thursday, September 26 in front of a national audience on ESPN. This matchup features a pair of teams which finished 2001 ranked among the Top 20 in both the Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today polls.
The Cards return to Memphis, the site of their 28-10 victory over BYU in the Liberty Bowl, on Tuesday, October 8 on ESPN2 in search of their fourth consecutive win over the Tigers. This game marks the first of seven straight conference games to end the season.
TCU, the only C-USA team to hand the Cards a loss in 2001, invades Papa John's Cardinal Stadium on Saturday, October 19 to kick off a three-game homestand for the Cardinals. East Carolina heads into town on Saturday, October 26 followed by an open week and then Cincinnati on Saturday, November 9.
Louisville returns to the national spotlight on Thursday, November 14 at Southern Mississippi on ESPN. UAB rolls into Louisville on Saturday, November 23 in the home season-finale before the Cards conclude the regular season at Houston on November 30.
