
Sanders named MAC Field Hockey Co-Player of the Year

OXFORD, Ohio - - University of Louisville senior Pip Sanders was named Mid-American Conference Field Hockey Co-Player of the Year. She shared the honor with Central Michigan goalkeeper Janel Spero and Kent State defender Helen Jerdan. Joining Sanders on the MAC first team was teammate Susan Sattazahn. Four Cardinals were selected to the second team: Danielle Barr, Kim Hughes, Desire' Miller and Olivia Netzler.
Sanders, a midfielder from New South Wales, Australia, posted four goals and four assists this season. She has started all 85 games of her career at Louisville and is a four-time All-MAC recipient. She currently hold the school record for career assists with 35 and is second on the career points list with 73.
Sattazahn, a midfielder from Palmyra, Pa., is a three-time All-MAC team recipient and has also started every game in her career for a total of 85 games.
Barr, a senior defender from Lititz, Pa., leads the team with eight assists and also has four goals. She has started 82 games in her career and has been named to the All-MAC Tournament team twice.
Hughes, a sophomore defender from Adalaide, Australia has scored five goals and dished out six assists for 16 points. She was the 2001 MAC Freshman of the Year.
Miller, a junior midfielder from Gauteng, South Africa, has scored five goals and two assists for 12 points. Two of her goals have been game-winners for the Cards.
Netzler, a junior forward from New South Wales, Australia leads the team with 20 points. She has nine goals and two assists. She was named to the All-MAC first team last year.
Louisville, No. 8 in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll, finished the season as the MAC regular season co-champion. The Cardinals received a first round bye in the MAC tournament and will face Ohio University on Saturday at noon on the campus of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
