
Sanders Earns Field Hockey All-American Honors

University of Louisville field hockey player Pip Sanders has been named to the 2002 STX/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I All-American third team.
Sanders, a senior midfielder from New South Wales, Australia (MacArthur Anglican HS) earned the honor after being named to the West Region first team for the third consecutive year. Sanders posted five goals and five assists on the season for a total of 15 points en route to being named Mid-American Conference Co-Player of the Year honors. Sanders is also a four-time All-MAC selection and two-time team Most Valuable Player. In addition to her other accolades, she was also named to the 2002 STX/NFHCA Senior All-Star team. Sanders started all 85 games during her career at Louisville, owns the school record for career assists with 35, single season assists with 13 and is second in career points with 73.
"I am so proud of Pip for the way that she has developed as a player and for the way she has helped this program grow," said U of L head coach Pam Bustin. "Pip deserves all of the honors she has earned and it is especially nice for her to have been recognized as an All-American."
The University of Louisville field hockey team finished the 2002 season with a 13-8 record (7-3 MAC). They were ranked No. 11 in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association ranking and captured the school's first the regular season MAC championship.
