LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Steph Marsh of DeWitt (Ia.) Central Clinton High School and Kara Hamilton of Lexington's Lafayette High School have signed national letters-of-intent to play volleyball at the University of Louisville.
"Both our recruits have great personalities. Their recruitment was a true team decision," said Leonid Yelin, U of L head coach. "They both attended our summer camp and our team fell in love with them, their work ethics and their talent. We are very happy to have them join our program."
Hamilton a 6-4 middle blocker, was the 2002 KHSAA Region 6 Most Valuable player. She led Lexington's Lafayette to its first ever region championship and a first round win in the 2002 State Tournament. She also plays basketball and softball for the Generals.
"With Kara's size, we are looking forward to see her develop into a premier blocker and hitter, " said Yelin. "With her abilities and work ethic, the sky is the limit in terms of how good she can be."
Marsh, a 6-3 middle and outside hitter, is still playing her senior season as the Iowa 2002 school season still has two weeks before crowning a champion. However she is widely regarded as the top player in the state, according to the Quad City Times. As a junior, she was named All-District and helped lead to their first State Tournament in 2000 and then again in 2001. She playes for the Junior Olympic Club Team's Court Masters Thunder.
"Steph has the potential to be an outstanding all-around player for us. The kind of player that keeps a team proactive on defense and in our game plan on offense. Although ball control is vital in volleyball, she will have all the components of the game that are valuable to a team. " said Yelin.
