Four Field Hockey Players Named to Academic All-MAC Team

CLEVELAND - - Four University of Louisville field hockey players: Joanie Frame, Christy Hershey, Susan Sattazahn and Jen Welgosh, have been named to the 2002 Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team. The University of Louisville field hockey team finished the season with a 13-8 record (7-3 MAC). They were ranked No. 11 in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association ranking and were the regular season MAC co-champions.
Frame, a senior sociology major from Louisville Ky. (Assumption HS) played in all 21 games as a senior. She tied for the team lead with nine goals. She was also named to the Academic All-MAC team as a junior.
Hershey, a communications major from Palmyra, Pa. (Palmyra HS) was Louisville's first field hockey All-American as a sophomore. The junior goalkeeper holds the career record for shutouts with 18.
Sattazahn, a biology major from Palmyra, Pa. (Palmyra HS), has started all 85 games of her career. The senior defender also earned All-MAC first team honors this year and is a three-time Academic All-MAC honoree.
Welgosh, an exercise science major from Wapwallopen, Pa. (Crestwood HS), is also a three-time Academic All-MAC honoree. The senior midfielder/forward was named to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-American District IV second team.
To qualify for the honor, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50% of the contests. First year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence not eligible for this award.
