BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The University of Louisville rowing team picked up three wins Saturday at the fifth annual LemonHead Regatta in Bloomington, Ind.
The Cardinals won the Varsity 8+ race with a time of 16:07, finishing ahead of Purdue and Indiana. The boat was comprised of Allison Kemphaus, Lucy Svehla, Leslie Walters, Stephanie Hutton, Carmen Noltemeyer, Stephanie George, Brooke Spence, Lisa Terreberry and coxswain Christy Ochsner.
In the Varsity 4+ race, U of L again finished first with a time of 18:02. Purdue was second, followed by Indiana in the event. The Cards' crew consisted of Kemphaus, Svehla, Walters, George and coxswain Diana Golub.
U of L swept the top two places in the Varsity Pairs event. The pair of Jessica Grigsby and Terreberry finished the race in 19:50, narrowly edging Hutton and Spence by 13 seconds.
The Cards placed third in the Novice 8+ competition in what was the first-ever race for the nine members of the U of L boat. They were Mandy Botelho, K.C. McCrocklin, Sandy McCoy, Jessica Gaul, Natalie Richards, Courtney Graham, Rania Attum, Miranda Elliot and coxswain Shannon Gilland.
Terreberry also finished second in the singles competition.
"We had a good day today," said head coach Richard Ruggieri. "We need to work to find some more speed before we go to the Head of the Charles, but I am pleased with where we are right now."
The Cardinals return to action Oct. 19 when the varsity travels to Boston for the Head of the Charles, the world's largest regatta, and the novice goes to Indianapolis for the Head of the Eagle.
