Field Hockey Beats Alumnae 6-0

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville field hockey team defeated the alumnae 6-0 on Saturday at Trager Stadium. Twenty six former players and coaches returned to U of L to help the Cards warm up for their season opener against Michigan.
The 2001 Cardinals opened the scoring early when junior Keri Beckhorn connected on a pass from junior Pip Sanders six minutes into the game. Sophomore Elisa Eshelman scored at 22:45 to put the current Cardinals up 2-0. Beckhorn, who returns as U of L's leading scorer, added her second goal of the game four minutes later to make the score 3-0. Junior Joanie Frame gave the current Cards a 4-0 halftime lead with just under 19 minutes remaining in the half.
The alumnae held the team scoreless for 20 minutes in the second half before junior Susan Sattazahn broke through with a goal at the 14:30 mark. Sanders followed five minutes later to make the score 6-0.
U of L travels to Ann Arbor, Mich. on Sunday, Sept. 2 to open the season against the Wolverines who finished the 2000 season ranked No. 5 in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association rankings.
