CINCINNATI, Ohio - The University of Louisville women's rowing team picked up a pair of first-place finishes Saturday afternoon at the Cincinnati Regatta. The 2,000m races were held on Harsha Lake at East Fork State Park in Cincinnati.
In the Novice 8+ race, sophomore coxswain Katie Hoetker led the Cardinals to a time of 7:03.2, edging Cincinnati by three seconds. Joining Hoetker on the winning boat were Laurie Robison, Stephanie George, Allison Kemphaus, Karla Curry, Carmen Noltemeyer, Elissa Peak, Lauren Hexton and Lindy Zeller.
Less than one hour later, Hoetker led the Cards to another victory, this one in the Novice 4+ event. U of L cruised to the finish line in 8:08.2, followed by Cincinnati "A" (8:21.0), West Virginia (8:28.0) and Cincinnati "B" (8:30.8). Robison, Curry, Heather Sarne and Peak joined Hoetker on the crew.
In the Varsity 4+ race, the Cardinals finished second with a time of 7:28.5, less than five seconds behind West Virginia but ahead of two Cincinnati boats.
U of L also placed second in the Varsity 8+ competition with a time of 6:53.7. UC won the event in 6:45.1, while West Virginia placed third.
"This was a very productive day," said U of L head coach Richard Ruggieri. "We defeated Conference USA foe Cincinnati in three of four races, which was good for our team. Now we must get ready for next week's Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships."
The Cardinals travel to Oak Ridge, Tenn., for the SIRA Championships on Saturday.
