Softball Advances to Finals of Metrodome Softball Classic

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The University of Louisville softball team defeated Western Illinois 2-1 in the semi-finals of the Metrodome Softball Classic.
Western Illinois broke a scoreless tie in the top of the third inning as Dani Hoffman hit a solo homer.
Louisville struck back in the bottom of the sixth when Melissa Jacobo led off the inning with a solo homerun to tie the score at 1-1. Candi Padilla followed with a single to center. She moved to third when Lisa McMillan reached on a Westerwind error and scored on a fielder's choice by Nikki Gaudio to give the Cards a 2-1 lead and the game-winning run.
Louisville reliever pitcher Mandy Rockwell (1-2) replaced starter Jessica Rak in the fourth inning and got the win. She kept Western Illinois scoreless, allowing two hits and striking out six in four innings.
The win advanced the Cards to the championship game where they would meet tournament host Minnesota.
