LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Ellis Myles recorded his third straight double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds as Louisville beat Wisconsin-Milwaukee 90-75 Friday night in the first game of the Jim Thorpe Classic.
Reece Gaines, Luke Whitehead and freshman Larry O'Bannon scored 15 points each, Erik Brown added 13 and freshman Carlos Hurt had 10 points and four assists for Louisville (3-1), which has won its three home games this season by an average of 27 points.
Ronnie Jones scored 22 to lead Wisconsin-Milwaukee (3-4), which dropped to 1-4 on the road.
Louisville missed six of its first eight shots, but then hit seven in a row during a 17-0 run.
Hurt hit a wing jumper and two 3-pointers during the spurt, and Whitehead's fast-break layup gave Louisville a 25-13 lead with 8:03 left in the first half.
Clay Tucker ended the Panthers' seven-minute scoring drought with a 3-pointer from the corner, but O'Bannon answered with a 3-pointer from the top of the key to restore the Cardinals' 12-point lead.
Louisville led 43-31 at halftime, and inside baskets by Myles and Gaines in the first two minutes of the second half started a 10-2 Louisville run.
The Cardinals led 61-42 when Tucker and Jones sank back-to-back 3-pointers and Nate Mielke scored inside to pull the Panthers to within 11, forcing Louisville coach Rick Pitino to call a timeout.
Louisville pushed the lead to 19 in the four minutes following the timeout and maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way.
The Cardinals won for the 30th straight time when they reach 80 points.
The two-day tournament is sponsored by the Jim Thorpe Association, a philanthropic organization named for the famous American Indian athlete of the early 20th century.
Virginia Tech (5-2) and Murray State (4-2) were playing in the second game Friday night.
