Louisville Head Coach Rick Pitino
"I have coached basketball for a long time. I would place that game in my top 10 in terms of intensity. That was a marvelous effort by our players. That was enormous the type of hustle put forth by us. Our defense was phenomenal. We tired a little in the second half, but that is to be expected when you work that hard. That was an incredible effort by us."
(on college basketball today) "Whoever plays the hardest will win that night. We did that tonight. Whenever you see a team (Louisville) play that hard, that show's great respect for the other team."
(on Luke Whitehead) "I 'm impressed with the whole team's effort. Luke is perfect for this style. He is playing the toughest position because he has the longest to run. To play that well is phenomenal for him."
"When you put on a Louisville uniform, you're supposed to play hard. When you play at the level we played tonight, that is incredible. I marvel at the way we played in the first half."
"Our defense one through five in the first half played well. Everyone covered for each other."
(were you sending a message by suspending Carlos Hurt) "I m not a believer in sending messages. They suspend themselves. I never suspend players. They suspend themselves."
Murray State Head Coach Tevester Anderson
"We dug a whole so deep early on by turning the basketball over and not being able to handle their pressure defense. Louisville came out and played aggressively. We knew they would press, but we did not handle it that well. The first 10 minutes of the game they just dominated. We took too many bad shots. The last 30 minutes we played well. You can't do that against a good basketball team and that is what we did today. They got a lot of baskets in transition.
(on Louisville style of play) "They are the most physical team we have played. They are well coached. Once we adjusted to their play, we played evenly but we had just dug ourselves too bug of a hole."
"The assist-to-turnover ratio for both teams had a lot to do with the outcome of the game."
(on the intensity Louisville played with) "I told my kids to take this game and make it a learning experience. We have to pattern our team after some team that plays really hard and plays physical on the defensive side and gets our and runs on the offensive side. That's how you play basketball. If we take this game and learn from them, we can be a good basketball team."
