
Hedgepeth Leads Cardinals at 2001 Indoor Track Opener

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Sophomore Brittany Hedgepeth finished fourth in the long jump to lead the University of Louisville women's indoor track team over the weekend at the Rod McCravy Memorial Meet in Lexington.
Hedgepeth recorded a jump of 5.66m (18' 07.00), just one inch short of her indoor best set last season. The Benton Harbor, Mich., native also placed 23rd in the 200m dash with a time of 26.69.
Sophomores Randalene Sergent and Cindy Roberson led the Cards in the pole vault by placing fourth and fifth, respectively. Sergent set an indoor school-record with a vault of 3.25m (10' 08.00), while Roberson cleared a personal indoor-best height of 3.15m (10'04.00).
Senior Kim Shore recorded a fifth-place time of 10:41.93 in the 3000m.
Senior Melissa Gale finished ninth in the 20lb. weight throw (14.33m - 47'00.25) and sophomore Lesley Drury came in ninth in the high jump (1.58m - 5'02.25).
Other Cardinal finishers were senior Kelly Thornton (14th - 1-mile), freshman Andrea Cartwright (15th - 400m), sophomore Marian McDonald (19th - 60m and 200m) and sophomore Stefanie Wooten (24th - 400m).
The Cardinals return to action Jan. 27 when they compete in the Smith-Barney Invite in Indianapolis.
