The Cardinals, who have yet to lose a game within a match, raise their record to 3-0. The Wildcats fall to 1-3.
Louisville shot out to a 6-0 lead in the first game, forcing Kentucky into a timeout. The Wildcats regrouped and reeled off three points, two from U of L misses. However, the Cardinals countered with six straight points, sparked by Emily Roberson's service ace. UK scored its fourth point on a a block solo by Megan Wieskircher, but did not score again to fall 15-4.
In the second game, Louisville was unable to pull away as easily, with the Wildcats staying close and tying at 8-8 three straight Louisville miscues. McClain answered with three kills for points with a kill by Bing Sun thrown in for good measure to take it to 12-8 and forcing a Wildcat timeout. After UK pulled to within two at 12-10, Louisville had three straight points to seal the second game 15-10.
"I think the biggest difference between this year and last is our diversity," said McClain. "Last year, the outside hitters took a ton of swings. Now we are begging for sets because we have so many, options to go to which makes it hard to defend us."
Up 12-3 in the third game, the Cardinals had to endure a 9-1 run by the Wildcats. Sonja Percan had a block and a kill to get U of L to game point. Kentucky staved off four match points while scoring point of their own to fall 15-12.
"This is a match where no one gives up until the last point," said Yelin.
