Special Events Precede Grambling at U of L Contest

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- A pair of special events will be staged on Friday, Sept. 8, preceding the University of Louisville's home football game against Grambling on Saturday, including a luncheon and free concert.
U of L Coach John L. Smith and Grambling Coach Doug Williams will be the featured speakers at the Louisville Legends Luncheon on Friday at noon at the Kentucky International Convention Center.
Four former U of L student-athletes -- Darrell Griffith, Wade Houston, Charlie Johnson and Lenny Lyles -- will be honored at the event for their post-graduate success and community involvement. The Grambling football team will also be in attendance at the event.
Tickets for the luncheon are $20 and may be purchased by calling the U of L special events office at (502) 852-0721.
A free concert at Louisville's Waterfront Park will be featured on Friday evening on the south end of the Great Lawn.
The U of L and Grambling Marching Bands will perform at the event before the featured group Rose Royce, whose hits include "Car Wash," takes the stage. Gates open at 6 p.m., music will begin at 6:30 p.m. and the performances start at 7 p.m. The world-famous Grambling Marching Band will also perform at halftime of Saturday's football game in Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.
Tickets for Saturday's game are available for $25 for reserved seats. U of L's new "Top Ten for Ten" -- the top ten rows of four end zone sections -- are also on sale now for the Grambling contest for $10 each.
