LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Six former University of Louisville Cardinal football players signed free agent contracts around the NFL. The group includes WR Lavell Boyd, DT Mike Gantous, TE Ibn Green, OL Anthony Byrd, PK Jon Hilbert and LB Bud Herring.
Boyd, a graduate of local Doss High School, signed with the Cincinnati Bengals while classmate Mike Gantous inked a deal with his hometown team, the Cleveland Browns.
The NCAA's all-time leader in pass caught by a tight end, Green was signed Sunday evening by the Indianapolis Colts.
A four-year starter along the offensive front for U of L, Anthony Byrd agreed to terms with the New York Jets while junior Bud Herring signed a deal with the Miami Dolphins. Herring led U of L in tackles in 1999 but went undrafted after declaring himself eligible for the NFL Draft.
Hilbert rounds out the group signing a free agent contract with the Dallas Cowboys and will compete for their starting placekicker job.
All six signed non-guaranteed deals and will report to mini-camps over the next two weeks.
