LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville Football team began its quest for a third consecutive post-season bowl appearance and first Conference USA Championship Tuesday afternoon with the opening of spring practice. The Cardinals will take the field 15 times in the month of April, culminating with the April 29 spring game in Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.
"We're going into spring ball with a lot of question marks on the offensive side of the football, but that makes this month even more exciting," said head coach John L. Smith. "These 15 days are really important for our younger guys to step up and show they can perform with the spotlight on them. There will be a lot of competition this spring and that will make for lively practices."
The Cardinals open spring drills trying to fill six vacancies on offense including NCAA recordholders QB Chris Redman and TE Ibn Green. Defensively, an ever-improving unit will need to continue that trend with seven starters back from last season's crew.
U of L will practice Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday through April 29 with the exception of April 28. Weekday practices begin at 3:30 p.m. while Saturday drills kick off at 9:00 a.m. All practices will be held at the Cardinal Football Complex and are open to the public.
