LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville announced its 2000 schedule and, for the second consecutive season, the Cardinals will play seven home games in state-of-the-art Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.
Among the seven home dates is an October 19 Thursday night contest with Conference USA rival East Carolina. The Cardinals will be playing a nationally-televised, Thursday night game for the second consecutive season.
"We're thrilled to have a Thursday night, nationally-televised contest come to Papa John's Cardinal Stadium," said U of L Director of Athletics Tom Jurich. "You can't put a price tag on the opportunity this gives us to showcase everything that is happening at U of L."
"We're excited that once again we'll take to our home field seven times," said head coach John L. Smith whose Cardinals have posted a 9-4 mark in PJCS over its first two seasons. "We are fortunate to have our rivalry game with Kentucky in our house this season as well as having four tough conference games and two non-conference games.
"Our road schedule should be equally challenging going not only to FSU, but to Southern Miss, UAB and Houston."
U of L opens with three of its four non-conference contests in Louisville including the September 2 season opener versus Kentucky.
Grambling follows the Wildcats a week later and leads U of L into its earliest bye week since 1989.
Following the idle week of Sept. 16, the Cardinals travel to Tallahassee, Fla. to take on the defending national champion Florida State Seminoles.
U of L returns home a week later to take on the University of Connecticut on Sept. 30.
Along with the Oct. 19 date with ECU, the Cardinals will welcome C-USA foes Cincinnati (10/14), Tulane (10/28) and Army (11/11) to PJCS.
Three league road games will send U of L to UAB (10/7), Southern Miss (11/4) and Houston (11/18).
Game times and television appearances are still to be determined.
