TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Louisville men's golf team opened the 2000 portion of its schedule with an 11th place showing at the Ron Smith Invitational hosted by the University of South Florida. The Cardinals' three-day total of 897 placed them in a tie with Wichita State University, 34 shots behind team champion Florida Southern.
The Cards put one golfer in the top 20 as sophomore Grant Sturgeon fired a final round 74 to finish in a tie for 19th place with Ramiro Perez of Jacksonville State.
Sturgeon's 54-hole total of 221 (+8) earned him a top 20 finish for just the second time in his collegiate career.
