LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Ernie Denham, men's golf coach at the University of Louisville for the past 11 years, will soon step down from his coaching duties at U of L, but will stay involved in a coordinating role.
A U of L honors graduate and former Cardinal golfer, Denham will continue to work with the U of L golf program, assisting both the men's and women's programs, scheduling, assisting in the transition to U of L's new Cardinal Club golf course currently under construction, and working with junior golf programs in the area.
"We appreciate all of Ernie's contributions and years of service on the course," said U of L Director of Athletics Tom Jurich. "He'll continue to be an asset to our department in other areas away from coaching. We hope to build our men's golf program to one that is competitive on a national level."
"I'm really pleased to have the opportunity to continue to work with the golf programs at U of L," said Denham. "I look forward to continuing to make a positive contribution in another capacity. I'm particularly excited about working with the university on the new golf course to ensure it is a state-of-the-art facility, which will fit nicely into the many new athletic facilities in place and under construction at U of L. I'm looking forward to working closely with (women's golf coach) Kelly Meyers and the new men's coach."
The Cardinals will conduct a national search for a new golf coach immediately.
