CINCINNATI - University of Louisville's Trish Young set new school and meet records in the javelin while throwing an NCAA Provisional Qualifying standard to lead the Cardinals at the Bearcat Open Saturday in Cincinnati. Young threw a personal-best 152-10 in the javelin and won the event for the fourth time this season.
"I am delighted for Trish," said head coach Gene Weis. "She's been flirting with that mark for three years now and she was ready for a big performance. Last year everyone who hit the provisional mark made the NCAA. We'll just have to wait and see how it all works out."
Jen Carlsen won the long jump competition with a distance of 17-07.78, while freshmen Randelene Sergent and Cindy Roberson both cleared 11-00 in the pole vault to finish 1-2. Senior Delicia Haynes won the triple jump with a distance of 36-01.50.
