INDIANAPOLIS - Zek Parker dominated two large fields to win both the 60m dash and 60m high hurdles to lead the Louisville track team at the Smith Barney Invitational at Butler University Saturday.
Parker, a second-year hurdler, jumper and sprinter, captured the 60m dash with a time of 6.90 seconds, and then completed his day with a time of 8.15 in the 60m high hurdles.
The Cardinal women vaulters, Cindy Roberson and Randalene Sergent, continued their undefeated seasons after having split wins in the first two meets of the indoor season. Both first-year vaulters cleared 10-0 to finish in the top two spots, with Roberson gaining the win on fewer misses.
Freshman Marian McDonald finished as the top collegian (second overall) in the 60m dash as she toppled another indoor school sprint mark with a time of 7.65. Shola Kadiri raised her indoor 20 lb. weight throw school-best (53-2.75) for the second consecutive week and finished as the top collegian (second overall).
First-year jumpers Brittany Hedgepeth and Lesley Drury and senior Delicia Haynes all earned top-three finishes. Hedgepeth was runner-up in the long jump (18-1.75) with her third straight 18+ foot competition. Drury, also a starter on the Cardinal Volleyball team, cleared 5-4 in the high jump for the second straight meet to also finish runner-up, while Haynes was third in the Triple Jump with a season-best jump of 35-8.5.
The men's 4x400 relay team of Stanley Tanyhill, David Mudd, J.R. McCleney and Brian Bickett recorded a decisive win to remain undefeated indoors with a school-best time of 3:18.89, marking the second time this winter they have broken the record. McCleney and Tanyhill, who recorded the fastest two splits on the 4x400 relay, also gained top-two finishes in individual events - Tanyhill was the top collegian in the Triple Jump (second overall), jumping 49-4.25, while McCleney was the second collegian in the 800, recording a seasonal best time (1:54.72).
"Our freshman continue to be impressive, particularly Marian (McDonald) who's doing an incredible job," said head coach Gene Weis. "The men's 4x4 has been fun and has given the program some excitement. We continue to stay relatively healthy, and we're making progress. The first week in February has traditionally been the 'benchmark' for our indoor season so this weekend (Rod McCravey meet at Kentucky) should tells us a good bit more!"
