LOUISVILLE, KY -- University of Louisville senior linebacker Rashad Harris earned the weekly Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week award following his 12-tackle performance in the Cardinals' 38-24 win over Cincinnati Saturday. The Huntsville, Ala. native also intercepted his first pass of the season, returning it 33 yards for a fourth-quarter touchdown to provide U of L with its final margin of victory.
Harris becomes the first U of L defender to be honored by the league since 1996 when defensive tackle Leland Taylor earned the title in the first week of November.
A two-time captain for the Cardinals, Harris tops the squad with 55 tackles this season and leads a resurgent U of L defense which currently ranks No. 7 in the nation against the run. Harris and his teammates have helped the Cardinals push out to a 5-1 start, the program's best since 1993.
Harris joins teammates Tony Stallings and Dave Ragone as league player of the week honorees. Stallings earned the award in Week One for his 144-yard performance against Kentucky while Ragone was honored for his four-touchdown afternoon against UAB Oct. 7.
U of L looks to run its winning streak to four this week as 4-2 East Carolina visits Papa John's Cardinal Stadium for a nationally-televised 7:00 p.m. ET contest.
