BAYONET POINT, Fla. - Against the most competitive field they have faced, the fledgling University of Louisville women's golf team finished fifth in the 12 team field at the Beacon Woods Invitational. Louisville's Katherine Mowatt placed in the top 10 for the second straight tournament.
The Cardinals shot a consistent 309, 310, 310 for a 929 to trail winner Mississippi State (886), South Florida (908), Central Florida (915) and Southern Miss (928). It was the first time the Cardinals caught a glimpse of Conference USA's 1998 tournament winner USF.
Mississippi State's Anna Gertsson shot three rounds of 72 for a tournament-best 216 to take medalist honors. Mowatt shot a 74, 75, 77 for a 226. Louisville's Jessica Kell also finished in the top 20 with an 80, 76, 74 -- 230.
"It was a great learning experience for this young squad. I was encouraged also by the fact that Cindy Pasechnik was just one stroke away from also being in the top 20," said head coach Kelly Meyers.
